LEARNING IN THE WORKPLACE: a toolkit for placement tutors, supervisors, mentors and facilitators

The growth of work based learning in  vocational  courses and professions has been accompanied by a corresponding realisation of the need for the development of placement tutors, supervisors, mentors and facilitators to maximize placement learning outcomes.

This timely tool kit developed from the very successful outcomes of the “Making Practice Based Learning Work” project. It provides placement staff with the resources and materials to enhance their roles in supervising and supporting students undertaking a work-based placement.  The tool kit is of value to both novice and experienced placement supervisors and provides scope for them to meet relevant standards as well  as developing a work based portfolio than can be developed for formal academic accreditation.

The tool kit comprise six units which provide rich and insightful theoretical accounts and practical aspects on role development through:

·         Learning and teaching in the workplace

·         Supporting learning in the workplace

·         Reflection on and in the workplace

·         Assessment in the workplace

·         Working with others in the workplace

·         Diversity in the workplace.

The tool kit will be of value to all placement tutors, supervisors, mentors and facilitators.
